PANDEMICS, A SYSTEMS APPROACH: understanding, management and prevention.

The symposium will begin with a keynote lecture that will do a comprehensive analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific achievements, management, health and societal impacts, as well as recommendations for prevention of future epidemic events.

The Global Challenge will be addressed by a round table that will have a format of mini symposium with debates among selected, highly specialized speakers covering different facets of the topic with short talks, as well as triggering lively interactions with the audience. The symposium will also include discussants covering different stakeholder profiles (professionals, young scientists, citizens/patients).

  • Chair: Daniel Prieto-Alhambra, UK
  • Keynote speaker (14:00-14:30). Title tbc, Ilaria Capua, USA
  • Mini symposium (14:30-16:10).
    • Mechanisms & clinical traits & therapeutic strategies & long-term consequences. Speaker tbc
    • Vaccines & logistics vaccination, Gemma Moncunill, ES
    • Network approaches in pandemics modelling, Alessandro Vespignani, USA

A SYSTEMS MEDICINE APPROACH TO MULTIMORBIDITY: toward personalized care for chronic patients.

Multimorbidity, concurrence of two or more chronic disorders in the same patient, is a common condition generating high burden on healthcare systems worldwide. Clusters of co-morbid disorders are non-random associations of chronic diseases often seen in multimorbid patients. Conventional clinical practice deals with each morbidity as a separate condition in a fragmented healthcare scenario. Major multimorbidity challenges will be addressed.

  • Chair, Charles Alessi, USA
  • Keynote speaker (14:00-14:30). Title tbc, Soren Brunak, DK
  • Mini symposium (14:30-16:15).
    • Multimorbidity clustering and disease trajectories. Molecular basis of he phenomenon. Speaker tbc
    • A clinical perspective: prediction and prevention strategies. Frank Lammert, DE

PRECISION MEDICINE: Multilevel risk assessment and deployment challenges.

Enhanced health risk prediction using multilevel modelling feeding clinical decision support tools in an integrated care scenario is still in its infancy, regardless it seems a natural step towards customization of care to individual patient’s needs.

The symposium will address major challenges faced to develop, evaluate, and adopt multisource clinical predictive modelling to pave the way toward personalized medicine. Lessons learnt from deployment of integrated care services will be analyzed.
